Clinician Peer Support Network
Connecting health care providers across Canada
Canada Health Infoway’s (Infoway) Clinician Peer Support Network is a pan-Canadian peer-to-peer program that promotes the active engagement of clinical practitioners involved in the implementation of electronic health information systems across Canada.
The network brings together natural leaders – physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care providers to:
- share best practices and build new knowledge,
- communicate stories to help develop expertise and facilitate learning,
- identify common and unique barriers in the implementation of change and clinical transformation.
How the network functions
The successful implementation of electronic health record (EHR) and electronic medical record (EMR) solutions requires clinicians who are engaged at every stop. Infoway collaborates with jurisdictions across Canada to create peer-to-peer programs to support physicians, nurses and pharmacists within the practice setting.
Currently, 10 peer networks have been established across Canada, one in each province. Each network is managed and operated autonomously and is based on the unique environment of the jurisdiction.
Infoway, however, provides financial support in initiating new programs and leveraging existing efforts to accelerate the adoption of EHRs and EMRs. For instance, face-to-face workshops, individual or group coaching and site visits are essential components of network activities.
In addition, leading practices and lessons learned in EMR/EHR implementation are shared across the country and a body of knowledge focused on research, professional practice and clinical informatics is being created.
Launch of Clinician Peer Support Network Forum
One of these initiatives is the recently launched online forum, which serves as a resource centre for clinicians, peer-to-peer network leaders and jurisdictional teams. Its purpose is to provide a centralized and coordinated community of practice for the sharing of resource materials, nurturing new knowledge and stimulating innovation related to the clinical adoption of EMRs and EHRs.
Get to know the Forum today. Sign in with your Infoway Passport. If you don’t already have a Passport, signing up for one just takes a few minutes.
The Forum is a joint effort among all stakeholders of peer-to-peer networks from across the country to encourage collaboration, learning and knowledge sharing.
