EHRs for Allied Health Care Providers
The right information at the right time
If you are an allied health care provider, chances are you have already experienced the advantages of new medical technologies. Many radiology technologists, medical lab technicians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and other professionals already benefit from a new generation of communication, diagnostic and imaging tools.
Once you have a patient's authorization, imagine being able to review their essential medical information prior to a consultation. And imagine being able to instantly digitize and upload diagnostic images and test results, enabling faster diagnoses and care regardless of the patient's geographical location.
Canada's electronic health record (EHR) will bring it all together, consolidating a patient's essential medical history and making it accessible where and when allied health care providers need it. Region by region, these EHRs are being woven into a secure, pan-Canadian network of interoperable EHR systems.
This will be the future of health care in Canada.
Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) is at the heart of Canada's conversion to EHRs, investing with the territories and provinces to accelerate the use of EHRs across Canada. Infoway has created a blueprint that determines how Canada's network of EHR systems will share, access, manage and safeguard heath care information. Learn more about Infoway.
EHRs will:
- Provide comprehensive information: EHRs will provide access to a patient's complete medical history, consolidated in one file.
- Enable collaborative care: One network will allow seamless communication and referrals between allied health care providers and other professionals.
- More efficient business processes: Better, standardized data will lead to efficiencies and best practices, ultimately saving time and money.
- Provide better access to remote care: Smart technologies will bring new ways to deliver health information and services to remote communities.
- Accelerate delivery of diagnostic images: EHRs will enable allied health care providers to quickly digitize and share diagnostic images. Learn more about the benefits of digital diagnostic imaging systems.
- Enable quick access to lab results: Online access to laboratory information will reduce duplicate tests and help speed diagnosis.
- Allow mobile access to EHRs: Allied health care providers such as paramedics will be able to access key information on mobile devices.
- Enable rapid sharing of vital information: Allied health care providers will be able to send digitized pathology and radiology results to the relevant caregiver without delay.
