Biography
Tom Closson
President and CEO, Ontario Hospital Association
Mr. Closson is a leading senior health care executive having served in high level positions in many of Canada's top hospitals. He was appointed President and CEO of the Ontario Hospital Association in January 2008. From 2000 until June 2005, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of University Health Network (UHN). Before joining UHN, Mr. Closson was President and CEO of the Capital Health Region in Victoria, B.C. Prior to that, he spent nine years at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto where he rose from the position of Chief Financial Officer to Chief Operating Officer, and ultimately to President and CEO. Further, he has extensive government experience including serving as Chief Information Officer for the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services.
Mr. Closson is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Service Executives and has volunteered on many panels and boards including Cancer Care Ontario, the Canadian Organization for Advancement of Computers in Health (COACH), the Hospital Medical Records Institute, the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES), the Institute for Work and Health and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), amongst others.
Mr. Closson has earned an MBA from York University in Toronto and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering degree from University of Toronto. He is a professional engineer.
Mr. Closson has received several career awards including an Engineering Medal for Management from Professional Engineers Ontario and a Hospital Leadership Award from Canadian Health Care Manager magazine.
